OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/31/2024, LaSalle County Sheriff's deputies attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by John Calder along Illinois Route 71. Calder did not stop. Deputies escalated a high-speed chase that continued until Calder's vehicle struck a guardrail and several trees, immobilizing it. As deputies closed on the scene, Calder died by suicide inside the vehicle.
