On 08/23/2024, Michael Abraham Hobbs, 39, was shot and killed by El Paso police during an attempted arrest in the 11200 block of Vista Del Sol Drive near Larry Wadkins Drive in East El Paso. Officers were attempting to arrest Hobbs on outstanding robbery warrants at approximately 2:33 p.m.

According to El Paso police, Hobbs allegedly displayed a weapon while officers attempted to arrest him. Police officers then fired their weapons, striking Hobbs. He died at the scene. Police initially withheld his identity and publicly identified him as Michael Abraham Hobbs in October 2024.

Three investigations were initiated following the shooting. The El Paso Police Department Crimes Against Persons Unit investigated the shooting, Internal Affairs conducted an administrative review, and the Texas Rangers conducted an independent criminal investigation.

Hobbs was born November 29, 1984. He was survived by his mother, six children, two brothers and his partner.
