Houston Police officers chased a vehicle and in the process, ran over and killed 62-year-old pedestrian Michael Jackson on the sidewalk, then finally crashing the patrol car against a dumpster. The officer was speeding at an estimated 100 mph on rain-slick roads and ended up on the sidewalk without lights, killing Jackson. Despite these facts Officer Orlando Hernandez was not indicted.

Huntsville Police responded to a warrant for Austin Flores, who was wanted for failing to comply with sex offender registration due to a child pornography conviction. On February 24, 2024, at approximately 3:00 p.m., 50-year-old Cesar Martha contacted 911, reporting that he was being followed and was armed with a handgun. San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies responded to the 2600 block of North Mountain Avenue in Upland, where they located Martha's parked vehicle. Upon arrival, deputies heard gunshots and requested aerial support to locate Martha. He was observed in the nearby hills, discharging his firearm without a clear target. Specialized Enforcement Division (SED) personnel and crisis negotiators were deployed and engaged Martha multiple times, attempting to persuade him to surrender peacefully. Despite these efforts, Martha suddenly emerged from his hiding spot and charged towards the officers while still armed. A lethal force encounter ensued, and Martha was struck by gunfire. Despite life-saving measures, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is under investigation by the Sheriff's Specialized Investigations Division. On April 26, 2023, at approximately noon, deputies from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office were executing a narcotics-related search warrant at a residence near Baco Drive and Blairs Lane in Placerville. Upon arrival, 32-year-old Thomas Michael Signor answered the door holding what appeared to be a firearm. Perceiving an immediate threat, deputies discharged their weapons, fatally striking Signor. No deputies were injured during the incident. Following the shooting, the Sheriff's SWAT team secured the residence and confirmed no additional individuals were inside. The scene was processed, and other accessible weapons were found throughout the home. The firearm held by Signor at the time of the confrontation was collected as evidence. The incident is under investigation by a multi-agency team, including the El Dorado County District Attorney's Office, Placerville Police Department, and South Lake Tahoe Police Department, in accordance with the Critical Incident Protocol to ensure a thorough and impartial review.

Police arrived for an attempt to arrest Stratmann and claim he grabbed a hammer. They tasered him and then shot and killed him. The cause for the attempted arrest was “mental illness” diagnosed by police themselves. The reason for the arrest was to force him to go to the hospital for online behaviors that displeased local police. He had made provocative comments on their social media pages that caused police to engage undercover police officers to find him. Stratmann had a verbal altercation with police when he entered a courthouse on prior occasion after which police claim he made “terroristic threats” toward them and judges in general. This was turned into an undercover operation to locate him and arrest him for “terroristic threats” which caused his demise. There is no record of him ever having been violent or having engaged in anything other than verbal arguments with police. He was apparently unarmed when killed aside from holding a hammer in his home.

On 02/26/2024, during his jury trial at the Community Justice Campus in Indianapolis, Lamon Moore, 36, fled the courthouse while awaiting a verdict. Authorities located his vehicle at an apartment complex near 30th Street and Baltimore Avenue. The Marion County Sheriff's Office SWAT team engaged in an hours-long standoff, attempting to negotiate a peaceful surrender. Upon entering the apartment, deputies found Moore dead from a gunshot wound.

On February 24, 2024, at approximately 12:42 p.m., Illinois State Police responded to reports of shots fired involving two vehicles stopped on the shoulder of northbound Interstate 55 near Lexington, Illinois. Upon arrival, officers observed 37-year-old Trayvon C. Little standing behind one of the vehicles, pointing a firearm toward them. Officers issued commands for Little to drop the weapon; however, he did not comply. Officers then exchanged gunfire with Little, who was fatally struck and later pronounced deceased at the scene.

Subsequent investigation confirmed that Little had fired a shot from inside his vehicle in the direction of another vehicle before officers arrived. The ISP Division of Internal Investigation is conducting the ongoing investigation, with findings to be reviewed by the McLean County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The deputy's patrol vehicle struck Kayla Cotton, a 34-year-old woman believed to be experiencing homelessness, who was reportedly standing in the roadway wearing dark clothing. The deputy immediately called for emergency assistance and initiated life-saving measures. Despite these efforts, Cotton was pronounced dead at the scene. The California Highway Patrol and the San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office are conducting a joint investigation into the incident. On the evening of February 24, 2024, Pima County deputies responded to a call about a man acting aggressively and wielding a sword at the Days Inn near Tucson International Airport. The man, later identified as 23-year-old Devon Lewis, was reported to be outside the hotel, yelling and threatening people with the weapon. When deputies arrived, Lewis briefly sheathed the sword before drawing it again and charging towards them. Deputy Ramon Morales, a one-year veteran with the Pima County Sheriff's Department, fired his weapon, striking and fatally wounding Lewis. Despite immediate efforts by other deputies to administer first aid, Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is being investigated by the Pima County Regional Incident Team (PCRIT), with oversight by the Tucson Police Department. The PCSD will also conduct an internal review, with all findings to be submitted to the Pima County Attorney’s Office for further review.

On 02/24/2024, at approximately 10:08 PM, a Gaston County police officer was driving with active blue lights and siren while responding to a call for service. The officer's vehicle collided with a civilian vehicle at the intersection of West Franklin Boulevard (US-74) and South Webb Street in Gastonia, North Carolina. The driver of the civilian vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

On February 23, 2024, at approximately 11:10 a.m., officers with the Rome Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Hi-Tech convenience store located at 401 South Broad Street. Surveillance footage showed that Kelvin Gerard Jackson, 34, entered the store, threatened the clerk with a gun, and demanded money. Shortly after officers arrived at the scene, Jackson fled on foot. Police chased him on foot up McGhee Street. During the pursuit, an officer confronted Jackson and shot and killed him. It is not known what this confrontation included. Police alleged that they found a gun, but no allegations have been made that Jackson attempted to use it. He died at the scene. On 02/20/2024, at approximately 4:15 p.m., law enforcement agencies from Idaho and Nevada coordinated to apprehend 25-year-old Anthony Erasmo Madrid Jr., believed to be involved in multiple shootings in Caldwell and Nampa, Idaho. Madrid fled south on U.S. Route 95 into Humboldt County, Nevada. Nevada State Police deployed spike strips near mile marker 53, deflating the driver's side tires of Madrid's vehicle. Despite the damage, Madrid continued for three miles before veering off the highway. Officers approached the stationary vehicle and found Madrid in the driver's seat with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to Renown Trauma Center in Reno, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 1:00 a.m. on 02/21/2024. The Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted the autopsy.

When the vehicle stopped, deputies released K-9 Officer Luca after the driver, who was identified as 38-year-old Jamarcus Brown. Brown allegedly fired a shot at the attacking dog. Deputies opened fire on Brown, killing him.
