On 08/22/2024, an unidentified man died by suicide while Rensselaer County sheriff’s deputies and New York State Police searched for him following an alleged domestic assault at a residence on Anders Road in the Johnsonville area of Pittstown. Deputies initially responded to an emergency call reported as a home invasion but determined that the incident involved two siblings.

Authorities alleged that the man seriously injured his sister during the domestic incident and then fled the residence on foot. The woman was found injured and transported to a hospital for treatment. Deputies and state troopers began an extensive search of the surrounding rural area.

The search included law-enforcement helicopters, and authorities closed a section of Nick Mush Road between the Buskirk and Johnsonville areas while personnel searched the countryside. The man’s body was subsequently found approximately 300 yards from his residence. The Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office determined that he died by suicide.
