On 08/21/2024, a 52-year-old man died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound during a police and SWAT operation on Spofford Avenue in Warwick. At approximately 1:00 p.m., Warwick police responded to a residence to check on the welfare of a man who was reportedly involved in a domestic dispute and believed to have a firearm.

Police reported that the man was not initially at the residence and his location was unknown. Authorities also said he had allegedly violated a no-contact order. Police established a perimeter around the area and evacuated several nearby homes while searching for him and attempting to resolve the situation.
