OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 08/14/2024, San Antonio police went to Jesse Cohn's residence in the 8500 block of Wakefield Drive after investigators identified him as the man they alleged had shot and killed two dogs four days earlier. Police had obtained a search warrant and placed Cohn's residence under surveillance before officers approached the home to execute the warrant.

Officers knocked on the residence, announced their presence and attempted to execute the warrant. Moments later, officers reported hearing a gunshot from inside. Police surrounded the residence and called the San Antonio Police Department Special Operations Unit to the scene.

SWAT personnel subsequently entered the residence and found Cohn suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Police initially believed he was dead but discovered that he still had a pulse. Cohn was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

Cohn remained hospitalized for six days before dying from the self-inflicted gunshot wound on 08/20/2024. San Antonio police announced his death on August 21.

Police alleged that surveillance evidence connected Cohn to the August 10 shootings of two dogs in the 1000 block of West Mariposa Drive. Investigators also alleged that he had previously placed food in roadways and attempted to strike animals with his vehicle.
