Event : Motorcyclist killed by police chase crash

OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 08/21/2024, Damon Chambers, 25, was killed after crashing his motorcycle while Converse police pursued him from Converse into Schertz. Police reported that Chambers was riding recklessly and traveling at speeds exceeding 100 mph before the fatal crash.

According to police, Chambers traveled along FM 78 and then turned north onto Schertz Parkway while continuing away from Converse officers at high speed. The pursuit crossed into Schertz.

At approximately 12:35 p.m., Chambers reached the intersection of Schertz Parkway and Elbel Road and collided with another vehicle. Schertz police said Converse officers had not yet reached the intersection when the collision occurred.

Chambers suffered critical injuries and was transported to Brooke Army Medical Center, where he died. The other driver was not reported to have suffered serious injuries.

Schertz police investigated the fatal crash with assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety Accident Reconstruction Team. Chambers was publicly identified two days after the crash.
