On 08/20/2024, Shekila Dysha Sivley, 26, was killed in a five-vehicle crash at Kirby Parkway and East Raines Road during a Memphis Police Department pursuit. Sivley was traveling in a Chevrolet Malibu with relatives when the vehicle was struck during the crash.

The pursuit began at approximately 9:45 p.m. near Getwell Road and Cottonwood Road. Police attempted to stop a black Chrysler 300 because officers recognized it as a vehicle reported stolen during an armed robbery the previous day at the Shadowbrook apartment complex. Police alleged that multiple armed people had taken the Chrysler during the robbery, and information about the stolen vehicle had been broadcast to officers.

The 16-year-old driver continued driving away when officers attempted the stop. Police pursued the Chrysler before losing sight of it. The Chrysler subsequently reached Kirby Parkway and East Raines Road, where police said the driver went through a red light at high speed and caused a five-vehicle collision.

The Chrysler struck the Chevrolet Malibu carrying Sivley and her relatives. Sivley, Patrice Hughes, 47, and Dantrice L. Stanback, 26, were killed. Several other people were injured, including a 2-year-old girl.

The driver was later identified as Erian Watkins after his case was transferred to adult court. Court records reported in 2025 show Watkins facing three counts of reckless vehicular homicide as well as robbery, aggravated assault, evading arrest and other charges connected with the incident.
