John Ray Romero was distraught and pointing a gun at his head when San Diego officers arrived. They fired beanbag rounds at him and finally shot him dead because he was holding a gun. Officer Anthony Bergman who fired fatal shots at Romero had previously killed Jesus Salvador Valeta, 22, while he was on his knees on July 23, 2021.
