On January 3, 2024, Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Deputy O’Brian Hill initiated a high-speed pursuit in Pensacola, Florida, because the driver failed to stop at a traffic stop. Police escalated the chase onto Beverly Parkway, engaging in high-speed maneuvers with lights and sirens activated as law enforcement aggressively attempted to apprehend the fleeing driver. During the pursuit, Deputy Hill ran a red light at high speed, colliding with a vehicle driven by a 56-year-old man who was lawfully crossing the intersection.

The impact caused severe damage to both vehicles, resulting in the death of the bystander at the scene. The fleeing vehicle escaped and has not yet been apprehended. New York State Police traffic-stopped a vehicle they allege may have been involved in a previous drive-by shooting. The driver stopped and police claim that he fired shots at them. They shot and killed him.

On January 2, 2024, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Kansas City Police Department officers were pursuing a vehicle allegedly involved in multiple armed robberies. The man, driving a black Dodge Challenger, entered the northbound lanes of Interstate 435 near Missouri 210 Highway, traveling southbound against traffic. Officers terminated the pursuit upon the vehicle's entry into oncoming traffic. Shortly thereafter, the pursued vehicle collided head-on with a Chevrolet Equinox driven by 60-year-old Alphonso "Duke" Carroll, who was en route to work. On January 2, 2024, Monona Police Department officers initiated and escalated a vehicle pursuit after an officer decided the vehicle was “suspicious,” despite not reporting a traffic violation, criminal offense, or confirmed threat prior to activating the chase.
Police pursued the vehicle through city streets until it crashed at Femrite Drive and Buckeye Road. Aaron Willis was the driver of the vehicle. Two passengers were also inside the car. All three occupants were killed in the crash caused during the police pursuit.
Police have not publicly identified a specific crime, warrant, or immediate danger that justified initiating the chase, stating only that an officer believed the vehicle appeared suspicious.
The decision by police to pursue directly led to the crash that killed Willis and the two passengers.
Aaron Willis was 30 years old and was expecting his first child with his wife, who was pregnant at the time of his death. Family members described the loss as devastating, noting that Willis never lived to meet his child.

On January 1, 2024, at approximately 2:04 p.m., the Saline County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) notified the Arkansas State Police (ASP) of a high-speed pursuit involving a white 1996 BMW driven by Aaron T. Watson, 35, of Hot Springs. The vehicle was traveling on the Interstate 30 service road near the 128-mile marker in Benton. An ASP Trooper employed a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) maneuver on Interstate 30 near the University Avenue exit in Little Rock, ending the pursuit. Watson fired at law enforcement officers, who returned fire, striking him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No ASP Troopers or Benton Police officers were injured. Watson was wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service and was driving a vehicle with fictitious plates. An investigative case file was presented to the prosecuting attorney to determine whether the use of deadly force was consistent with Arkansas law.

On January 1, 2024, at approximately 4:30 p.m., a Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officer attempted to stop a motorcyclist, later identified as 43-year-old David Danjuan Williams, near Rose Street and West Michigan Avenue for a license plate violation. Williams fled, leading to a pursuit that ended near Harrison Street and East Michigan Avenue when his motorcycle experienced mechanical issues. Abandoning the motorcycle, Williams ran through Veteran's Memorial Park and entered the Kalamazoo River in an attempt to evade arrest.

Officers observed Williams struggling against the river's current, which pushed him downstream. He went underwater and did not resurface. Rescue efforts were initiated but were unsuccessful in locating him.

On February 20, 2024, over a month after his disappearance, Williams' body was discovered in the river north of the Patterson Street bridge. The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety's crime lab, in collaboration with the Medical Examiner and Forensic Services of the Western Michigan University School of Medicine, confirmed his identity using comparative radiography.

On 01/01/2024, Longview police responded to a 911 call on Columbia Heights Road about a woman reportedly attempting suicide. When officers arrived, she grabbed a gun and exited the residence. Police fired upon her 23 times, striking and killing her. The city settled a wrongful-death suit for $2 million, and the case prompted scrutiny over police handling of mental-health emergencies.

On January 1, 2024, an armed Spartanburg Methodist College campus safety officer initiated a traffic stop on Victor Figueroa Roblero during an alleged investigation into possible impaired driving on campus. During the encounter, the officer attempted to detain Roblero and escalated the interaction into a physical altercation. During that altercation, the officer opened fire, shooting and killing Roblero. He is believed to have been unarmed. The shooting occurred while the campus was closed for winter break and no students were present.

On January 1, 2024, at approximately 6:30 a.m., Cedar Rapids Police Department officers responded to reports of shots fired at a residence in the 400 block of Longwood Drive NE. Witnesses reported that a sedan had driven past the residence, and an individual inside fired shots at the home.

The driver, identified as 20-year-old Michael Griffin of Cedar Rapids, did not stop. Officers escalated a pursuit spanning nearly six miles, during which Griffin allegedly fired an AR-15 rifle at least twice from his vehicle at pursuing officers.

At some point during the pursuit, a 17-year-old male passenger exited the vehicle and was taken into custody. Officers continued chasing Griffin, eventually employing a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle in the 5600 block of Mount Vernon Road.

After the vehicle was stopped, officers reported hearing a gunshot from inside Griffin's car. Believing Griffin was continuing to fire, five CRPD officers—Sergeant Graham Campshure, Officer Christopher Hettinger, Officer Jonathan McDowell, Officer Loren Culver, and Officer Dylan Hall—opened fire, striking Griffin. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation conducted an investigation into the incident. Upon completion, the facts and circumstances were reviewed by the Linn County Attorney’s Office and the Iowa Attorney General’s Office. The Linn County Attorney concluded that the officers' use of deadly force was legally justified.

On 12/31/2023, deputies from the Marion County Sheriff's Office attempted a traffic stop on 36-year-old Kyle Last, a person of interest in a burglary investigation. Last allegedly hit a deputy's patrol car when driving away. Officers from the Ocala Police Department located Last and escalated the chase. He crashed into a Berkshire Hathaway Real Estate business at the intersection of East Fort King Street and 22nd Avenue. Last died as a result of the crash.

Beaumont PD announced that a domestic violence incident occurred with a man driving from Beaumont, TX across the border into Louisiana and bringing a family member back by force. The man locked himself into the Beaumont home with the women he forced to come with him and 2 children, apparently part of a domestic crisis. The man was seen with a gun and dragging the woman into the home with him. Beaumont PD and SWAT arrived and surrounded the home, parking a reported 0-15 police and SWAT vehicles outside. SWAT busted doors and threw in flashbang grenades. When police went inside, they found Senegal dead from alleged suicide under police duress.

A woman came to MTA officers alleging a man had groped her breast. She had taken a cell phone photo of him. Police located him, allege that he had a gun and fired one shot in unknown direction.
