On 08/18/2024, Tice Daequan Cobb, 26, of Auburn was shot and killed by an Opelika police officer during an encounter in the 1800 block of Century Boulevard. Shortly after 3:00 a.m., the officer responded to a call concerning what authorities described only as a “suspicious incident.”

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the Opelika officer encountered Cobb after arriving at the location. ALEA reported that Cobb was armed, although the initial public account did not identify the type of weapon or explain what Cobb was allegedly doing with it when the officer encountered him.
