OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 08/15/2024, Curtis “CJ” Glen Purvis Jr., 31, of McRae-Helena was shot and killed by a Laurens County sheriff’s deputy during a domestic violence response at a residence in the 2000 block of Sudie Pearl Jones Road near Alamo. The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office received the 911 call at approximately 10:20 p.m.

When the deputy arrived, Purvis was no longer at the residence. While the deputy was speaking with the person who had reported the domestic dispute, Purvis returned in a vehicle.

According to the GBI, Purvis drove toward the residence and struck another vehicle and the reporting person's father. Before Purvis struck the vehicle and man, the deputy fired at Purvis's vehicle. The GBI did not report that Purvis was struck by this initial gunfire.

Police alleged that Purvis then got out of the vehicle, entered the residence and stabbed the person involved in the original domestic dispute. Purvis subsequently came back outside carrying a knife. The deputy then fired at Purvis, striking him. Purvis was pronounced dead at the scene.

The person who was stabbed and that person's father were transported to a hospital for treatment. The GBI investigated the deputy's shooting and said the completed investigation would be submitted to the Dublin Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for review.
