OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/16/2024, Wayne Anthony Fuller Jr., 44, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the end of a Spalding County Sheriff’s Office pursuit into Henry County. A Spalding County deputy ended the pursuit with a PIT maneuver near Georgia Highway 155 and Greenwood Industrial Parkway in McDonough.
.
The pursuit followed the shooting death of Fuller’s wife, Cotina Louise Fuller, 51, earlier that day at the Fast Trip gas station on Riverside Drive in Macon. Bibb County deputies found Cotina Fuller suffering from multiple gunshot wounds at approximately 11:07 a.m. She died at the scene. Authorities identified Wayne Fuller as the person being sought in connection with her killing.
.
At approximately 2:00 p.m., a Spalding County sheriff’s deputy received a lookout alert for a vehicle associated with the Macon homicide. While the information was being broadcast, the deputy saw the vehicle pass and attempted to stop it specifically because police were seeking the vehicle and Fuller in connection with the homicide.
.
Fuller continued driving north on Georgia Highway 155 while the Spalding County deputy pursued. The pursuit entered Henry County, where personnel from additional law-enforcement agencies assisted.
.
The original Spalding County deputy performed a PIT maneuver to end the pursuit near Greenwood Industrial Parkway. When officers approached Fuller’s vehicle, they saw blood inside. Fuller was found with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officers attempted medical aid, but Fuller died at the scene.
.
The entire conclusion of the pursuit was captured on video. Spalding County Sheriff Darrell Dix stated that Fuller was not shot by police and that preliminary evidence did not indicate Fuller fired at the pursuing deputy.
.
The GBI conducted an independent investigation into Fuller’s death. The Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney later reported that Fuller had killed Cotina Fuller and died by suicide during the subsequent police chase.
