OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On the evening of August 7, 2024, Sumter County Sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in the 1100 block of South Georgia Tech Parkway in Americus, Georgia. The 911 call reported that 45-year-old Jamie Lynn Still was intoxicated, acting erratically, and armed with a rifle. The caller, along with three children, was locked inside the home and indicated that Still had been physically violent.

Deputies called for additional assistance and attempted to negotiate with Still. Still emerged from the residence and fired at deputies. A deputy returned fire, striking Still. Deputies evacuated the woman and three children through a window. After ensuring the safety of the occupants, deputies entered the home and found Still lying on the floor. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an independent investigation into the incident. An autopsy will be performed at the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office. Upon completion of the investigation, the case file will be reviewed by the Southwestern Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office.
