OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 08/05/2024, the Irvine Police Department responded to a 911 call at a residence on Whistling Swan in the Woodbridge neighborhood. A caregiver reported finding her patient, 38-year-old John Alexander Bash III, unresponsive and bloody. Officers discovered Bash, who was paralyzed and used a wheelchair, deceased from apparent stab wounds. A gold Honda minivan had crashed into the home's garage door, providing access to the suspect. Approximately an hour later, officers encountered 47-year-old Aaron Matthew Shindle, Bash's former caregiver, near Stonecreek South and West Yale Loop. Shindle was armed with a knife and, despite commands to drop the weapon, advanced toward an officer, prompting the officer to discharge his firearm. Shindle was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. A knife was recovered at the scene.
