On 08/04/2024, deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Lakewood Station responded to a family disturbance call at 8425 Quimby St in Paramount. Upon arrival, they encountered a male victim with facial injuries, who reported being punched by his son, 30-year-old Julio Cesar Palomares. The victim led deputies to the rear patio, where Palomares emerged from a bedroom holding a pair of approximately seven-inch scissors. Despite verbal commands to stop, Palomares advanced toward the deputies. A TASER deployment was ineffective, and as Palomares continued to approach, deputies opened fire, striking him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim sustained facial injuries, and Palomares' mother had an abrasion on her forearm.
