OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/03/2024, at approximately 8:48 p.m., Bastrop County Sheriff's deputies responded to Bobolink Street east of Bastrop after receiving reports of a man firing a rifle indiscriminately. When deputies arrived, 35-year-old Christian Felix Gonzalez allegedly fired at one of the responding deputies, who was not struck. The Bastrop County Sheriff's Office activated its Special Response Team. According to investigators, Gonzalez emerged from the residence armed with a rifle and again engaged responding deputies with gunfire. Two deputies fired their weapons simultaneously, striking Gonzalez. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No deputies or civilians were injured. The deputies involved were placed on paid administrative leave pending the investigation. Publicly available records have not identified the deputies by name. The Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting. Gonzalez's family stated he was a Marine Corps veteran who struggled with mental health issues after returning from military service.
