On February 20, 2024, officers from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) observed a Toyota Camry driving with its headlights off near Ventura Boulevard and Balboa Boulevard in Encino, California. Officers began following the vehicle but stated they did not initiate a formal pursuit.

The driver of the Camry, attempting to evade police presence, accelerated at high speed and lost control. The vehicle collided with a pole, resulting in a fiery explosion. A 14-year-old girl, seated in the backseat of the car, was killed in the crash. A 16-year-old girl was also in the vehicle at the time, though her condition is not disclosed in available reports.

Officers following the vehicle attempted to extinguish the flames but were unable to rescue the girl trapped inside. The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames by the time emergency services arrived.

Deputies made contact with the woman, who reportedly fought with them. Additional deputies arrived to assist, and the woman was subdued and taken into custody. During the process, she became unresponsive and was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The cause of death is under investigation as a medical emergency that occurred during the arrest.

Columbia police were sent to Pine Grove Village, a mobile home community at 3900 Clark Lane in Columbia for a domestic violence call. Police arrived and alleged that a man pointed a gun at them. Police called SWAT and bore down on the trailer until the man died from suicide under duress.

Cleveland Division of Police ran an unannounced and unpermitted chase of Michael Yearout for not stopping on command and hunted him until he crashed into a semi and died. He had committed no crimes. The chase was unauthorized. Yearout had apparently tried to make a left turn, realized it was not permitted and corrected himself. An officer saw this and began hunting him. The father of six was on his way to work when chased into a fatal crash by police.

His family continues to speak out. They state that after six months, police still did not tell them why they initiated the unpermitted chase and they are unable to get answers.

On February 19, 2024, Phoenix police responded to reports of a man attempting to steal cars at gunpoint in the area of 60th Lane and McDowell Road. Officers quickly located the 37-year-old man, later identified as Miguel Godines, and began a pursuit. The Phoenix Police Air Unit assisted in tracking Godines from the sky, directing officers on the ground. At one point, Godines stopped his vehicle and exited, reportedly carrying a firearm. He ran toward a group of vehicles, leading officers to believe he was attempting to carjack them. In response, officers on the ground fired at Godines, striking and killing him. The incident is under investigation by the Phoenix Police Department, with oversight by the Department of Public Safety (DPS).

On February 18, 2024, at approximately 3:20 p.m., Union County 911 received a call reporting a domestic dispute involving a firearm at a residence on Wesley Mountain Road in Blairsville, Georgia. Union County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the location and attempted to negotiate with 85-year-old Wendall Cross, who was armed. During the encounter, Cross fired his gun in the direction of the deputies. In response, the deputies returned fire, striking Cross. Deputies rendered aid, and Union County EMS transported him to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

On February 17, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) trooper initiated a traffic stop on a 40-year-old male driver in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 near LPGA Boulevard in Daytona Beach. The trooper suspected the driver of being impaired and instructed him to remain in his vehicle. However, the driver exited his vehicle and failed to comply with the trooper's commands to return. The trooper deployed a Taser, resulting in a brief struggle on the highway shoulder. The driver then walked westward into the southbound lanes of I-95, where he was struck by multiple vehicles and pronounced dead at the scene. No other individuals were reported injured.

Officers were responding to reports of a domestic disturbance where Gooden was reportedly armed and had barricaded himself in the home with multiple family members, including seven children ranging in age from 2 to 15.

As officers attempted to negotiate, Gooden opened fire, fatally striking Burnsville Police Officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge, as well as Burnsville Firefighter/Paramedic Adam Finseth. Sgt. Walker County deputies attempted to stop Anthony R. Miles on his motorcycle. During the pursuit, Miles lost control of his motorcycle and was thrown off, sustaining fatal injuries. After the crash, the motorcycle was struck by a deputy's vehicle. Miles was pronounced dead at the scene. The reason for the initial pursuit remains unclear.

Lipscomb Police attempted a traffic stop on a speeding Dodge Challenger on February 16, 2024. The driver fled, and police escalated a chase. Police soon "called off the chase," but the vehicle crashed into a tree and overturned at the intersection of 6th Avenue North and 5th Street North. Unfortunately, the specific time or location when the chase was called off, as well as the exact distance between the point where the pursuit ended and the crash site, has not been released by police sources​.

Hajsun Jermale Hudson Jr., who was a passenger in the vehicle, was critically injured in the crash. He was transported to UAB Hospital, where he was later declared dead after being removed from life support. A second juvenile passenger was critically injured but survived, while another juvenile passenger sustained no injuries. The investigation into the crash is being handled by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

On February 15, 2024, around 3:00 p.m., 29-year-old Dario Agudelo appeared at Café Rica in downtown Battle Creek. Earlier in the day, police had escorted him out of the café due to unspecified unruly behavior. Upon his return, Agudelo was allegedly involved in an assault near the W.K. Kellogg House before officers were dispatched again to detain him.

Agudelo began resisting and stepped toward an officer. The officer fired her Taser, which had no effect. Agudelo reportedly tackled the officer and attempted to disarm her. During the altercation, Agudelo gained control of her firearm and shot her in the leg. A backup officer then opened fire, killing Agudelo. The injured officer was treated and is expected to fully recover.

Upon activation of the patrol vehicle's blue lights, the driver, later identified as Tyland Archer, did not stop. As the officer approached the intersection of Harper Gault and Oakdale roads, the Challenger was found wrecked in the wood line. The vehicle had collided with a tree, resulting in significant damage. The passenger, Justin Villanueva, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Tyland Archer was entrapped within the vehicle and was later transported to an area medical center, where he was pronounced dead. Subsequent investigation revealed that the Dodge Challenger had been reported stolen from another jurisdiction. The South Carolina Highway Patrol's Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) was notified to conduct an independent investigation of the wreck. The Rock Hill Police Department's Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team also responded to investigate for internal review.

On February 14, 2024, Chillicothe Police stopped 50-year-old Marvin Martin III on the 1800 block of North Finney Street, believing he was driving a stolen vehicle. As officers approached, Martin allegedly reached for a weapon. Police engaged him in a shootout, during which Martin was struck and killed by gunfire.

Deputy Leonard had just arrested a female on a bridge who was fighting with a man when he disappeared from radio contact. His cruiser was found upside down submerged under mud and water in the Tennessee River. .A handcuffed female was found drowned in the backseat of the vehicle when the vehicle was found underwater upside down. There was no trace of Deputy Leonard. His body was later found in the river. Deputy Leonard was new in the area, having moved from NYC only a few months prior. It was 9 p.m. and dark. He was not familiar with the area. According to police, he was distracted radioing and texting when he went in the water.

On February 11, 2024, at approximately 2:00 PM, officers from the Cumming Police Department responded to a report of shoplifting at the Target store on Marketplace Boulevard in Cumming, Georgia. The store's loss prevention team identified 32-year-old Robert Cornelious Powell of Brooklyn, New York, as the suspect. Upon arrival, officers observed Powell in the parking lot with items believed to be stolen. As officers approached, Powell fled on foot into a nearby wooded area. After a brief pursuit, Powell surrendered and was taken into custody without incident. During the arrest, officers noticed an injury to Powell's leg, and he reported difficulty breathing. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were called, and Powell was transported to Northside Forsyth Hospital. Upon arrival, Powell experienced a medical emergency and was pronounced dead. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an independent investigation into the incident.

Police arrived at a “shots fired” call, encountered a man, had a conversation and shot and killed him. The “gun” turned out to be a replica or other item but not a weapon. The allegations that shots had been fired was apparently unfounded.

Officer Nevada Krinkee investigated a trespassing call and followed a man who locked himself inside of a home. When the officer entered, he was shot and killed. The shooter fled and was found by police on 7th and Sheridan and a lengthy standoff ensued. After 30 hours, the man allegedly came out of the home with a weapon and was shot and killed.

On February 13, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Southfield Police officers received an ALPR alert on a white 2003 Kia sedan reported stolen out of Detroit on February 5. The driver, identified as 19-year-old Jarrell Dewand Newman III of Taylor, Michigan, did not stop. Police escalated a chase, accelerating speeds northbound on Evergreen Road. Newman lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a reinforced fence near a DTE substation between Westhampton and Westover. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Two teenage female passengers were injured and also taken to a hospital. One of the passengers stated that she believed the vehicle was an Uber and was unaware that it had been listed as stolen by police.

Kassandra Lozano was a passenger in the car of off-duty officer Pedro Lozano who crashed into a vehicle on the side of the road that had stopped to help a vehicle rolled over in the ditch. The officer in a Corvette smashed into the Good Samaritans’ vehicle, killing Kassandra Lozano and critically injuring one of the Good Samaritans and officer Lozano. A blood alcohol level was ordered on Officer Lozano, results not published by police. It is unknown how fast he had been driving. The crash occurred at 2:30 a.m. on Bob Bullock Loop

Armond Avitable had allegedly shot and killed a woman and fled without the gun. Police located him and apparently beat him and he died during arrest. It was discovered by the Morris County medical examiner that he had a gunshot wound to the torso, apparently also inflicted during arrest.
