On 08/01/2024, San Gabriel Police Department officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2015 Jeep for reckless driving. The driver, later identified as 50-year-old Pedro Meza Diaz, failed to stop, and police escalated a pursuit that concluded in the 2600 block of Charlotte Avenue in Rosemead. At the termination of the pursuit, two officers discharged their firearms, striking Diaz, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The circumstances leading to the use of lethal force remain under investigation. No officers were injured during the incident. The California Department of Justice is leading the investigation.
