Detroit police officers in the area of Russel Street and Warren Avenue attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle that fled. Police escalated a high-speed chase and the vehicle into a tree in the 2660 block of East Canfield Street. Two other children were injured while 11-year-old Xavier Mena was pronounced dead at the scene.
