OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 06/07/2022, Franklin County Sheriff's Office SWAT deputies conducted surveillance at a Sunoco gas station at Stelzer Road and Agler Road in Columbus. Deputies were attempting to arrest 20 year old Pozz Striblin on an active felony warrant for failure to register. Authorities also identified him as a person of interest in a double homicide that had occurred on West Broad Street on 05/31/2022.
According to investigators, deputies moved in to arrest Striblin as he sat in a vehicle at the gas station. Deputies blocked the vehicle as it attempted to leave the parking space. Striblin exited the vehicle and, according to the prosecutor's summary, had a handgun. Authorities stated that he moved toward the front of the vehicle and raised the gun in the direction of deputies. Two SWAT deputies opened fire, striking him multiple times. Striblin was pronounced dead shortly afterward. A handgun was recovered. Franklin County deputies did not yet have body cameras deployed at the time of the shooting. The sheriff's office body camera program did not go live until later in 2022. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation reviewed the shooting. A Franklin County grand jury later declined to indict either deputy. Prosecutors concluded the deputies acted lawfully under Ohio self defense statutes.
