On 06/07/2022, Franklin County Sheriff's Office SWAT deputies conducted surveillance at a Sunoco gas station at Stelzer Road and Agler Road in Columbus. Deputies were attempting to arrest 20 year old Pozz Striblin on an active felony warrant for failure to register. Authorities also identified him as a person of interest in a double homicide that had occurred on West Broad Street on 05/31/2022.
According to investigators, deputies moved in to arrest Striblin as he sat in a vehicle at the gas station. Deputies blocked the vehicle as it attempted to leave the parking space. Striblin exited the vehicle and, according to the prosecutor's summary, had a handgun. Authorities stated that he moved toward the front of the vehicle and raised the gun in the direction of deputies. Two SWAT deputies opened fire, striking him multiple times. Striblin was pronounced dead shortly afterward. A handgun was recovered. Franklin County deputies did not yet have body cameras deployed at the time of the shooting. The sheriff's office body camera program did not go live until later in 2022. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation reviewed the shooting. A Franklin County grand jury later declined to indict either deputy. Prosecutors concluded the deputies acted lawfully under Ohio self defense statutes.

On June 4, 2022, police received reports that Jacob Poitraw had allegedly threatened motorists with an AR-15 style rifle during a road rage incident. Police attempted to locate him but were unsuccessful.
Police stated Poitraw later contacted the department but refused to surrender and allegedly made threats toward law enforcement.
On June 5, Sgt. Tyler Cote located Poitraw driving a pickup truck in Presque Isle and attempted a traffic stop. Poitraw continued driving and a pursuit began.
According to the Attorney General's report, the pursuit lasted roughly three minutes. During it, Poitraw repeatedly backed his truck into Cote's cruiser. Investigators concluded he struck the cruiser three separate times.
The final collision occurred at Main Street and Davis Street near Freshies convenience store. Investigators concluded Poitraw was pushing the police vehicle backward with his truck when Cote fired six rounds through the windshield of his cruiser. One round struck Poitraw.
Poitraw was transported to a hospital and died later that evening.
One of the most significant later developments came from Poitraw's mother. She publicly stated that her son struggled with severe mental illness, addiction, depression, and repeated suicide attempts. She said he had been placed on life support four times following suicide attempts and believed the deaths of his brother and father within about a year contributed to a severe decline in his mental health.
Her statements suggest that mental health issues may have played a substantial role in the events leading up to the shooting. She did not publicly discuss the details of the confrontation itself because the investigation was ongoing at the time.

At approximately 8:40 p.m. on June 4, 2022, Baltimore County officers responded to an "unknown trouble" call at an apartment building in the 500 block of Virginia Avenue in Towson.
Upon arriving, officers reported hearing gunshots coming from inside the building. Officers entered and went to the eleventh floor after information from the caller indicated where the disturbance was occurring.
Officers located the apartment and knocked on the door. Joseph Robert Henry Thompson, 66, opened the door while holding a handgun.
According to body camera footage and the state investigation, Thompson quickly stepped backward and opened fire almost immediately after opening the door.
One officer was struck in the hand by gunfire. His injury was not life threatening and he was released from the hospital the following day.
Officers Johnson, Klapka, and Fitzgerald opened fire, striking Thompson multiple times. He died inside the apartment.
Officers discovered an adult woman inside the apartment suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators concluded she had been shot by Thompson before police arrived.
She was transported to a hospital in critical condition and later survived her injuries.
Body camera release:
Maryland released body worn camera footage on June 30, 2022. The video shows officers approaching the apartment, knocking, Thompson opening the door with a handgun, and gunfire erupting almost immediately.

On 06/02/2022, White Mountain Apache Police Officer Adrian Lopez Sr. stopped Kevin Dwight Nashio on East Fork Road near Whiteriver on the Fort Apache Reservation. Police did not publicly disclose the reason for the traffic stop. During the stop, an altercation occurred between Nashio and Officer Lopez. Police said Nashio shot and killed Officer Lopez, took the patrol vehicle, and drove away.
Police from multiple agencies chased the vehicle across the reservation. During the pursuit, authorities reported exchanges of gunfire between Nashio and pursuing officers. The chase continued for approximately 40 miles before the patrol vehicle crashed near Hawley Lake. Police said Nashio continued exchanging gunfire with officers after the crash. Officers opened fire and killed Nashio. Sgt. Lonnie Thompson was wounded during the incident and survived.
Kevin Nashio was a member of the White Mountain Apache Tribe. The FBI investigated the shooting because it occurred on tribal land.
