OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 07/31/2022, officers with the Greenfield Police Department responded to a reported domestic disturbance at a residence in the 700 block of Bobtail Drive. Upon arrival, officers encountered 56-year-old Darrin Baker outside the home.
According to investigators, officers observed Baker assaulting a woman during the encounter. Police stated that Baker was armed with a handgun and did not comply with officers' commands. Officer Jarrod Davis fired his service weapon, striking Baker. Officers rendered aid until emergency medical personnel arrived, but Baker was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Indiana State Police conducted the investigation into the shooting. The Hancock County Prosecutor's Office later concluded that Officer Davis's use of deadly force was legally justified under Indiana law and announced that no criminal charges would be filed.
