OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 07/31/2022, officers with the Aransas Pass Police Department responded to reports that Joseph Torres was pursuing a woman in a vehicle while firing gunshots at her. During the incident, a passenger in the woman's vehicle was struck by gunfire and injured. Investigators also alleged that the incident involved an aggravated kidnapping.
Officers located Torres, who continued driving away before stopping near the Buckhorn Saloon at 2816 Main Street in Ingleside. Torres then ran from the vehicle on foot. Officers from the Aransas Pass and Ingleside Police Departments pursued him to the rear of the business, where a physical struggle occurred.
According to investigators, Torres fought with officers during the encounter. Officers then fired their weapons, striking Torres. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured passenger from the earlier shooting was transported to a hospital and survived.
The Texas Rangers conducted the independent investigation into the shooting. Publicly available records do not indicate that the officers involved were publicly identified or that the investigation resulted in criminal charges against any law enforcement officer. Likewise, no publicly reported wrongful death lawsuit by Torres' family was located.
