OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 07/30/2022, deputies with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a man armed with knives at a residence in the 2300 block of Grunthal Street.
According to investigators, Bobby James Brown remained inside the residence for a period of time while deputies attempted to resolve the situation. After Brown exited the residence, deputies stated that he was holding two kitchen knives and advanced toward them despite repeated commands to drop the weapons. Deputies fired their service weapons, striking Brown.
Brown was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement conducted the independent investigation into the shooting, and the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office completed its internal review.
Brown's family remembered him as a loving father, son, brother, and friend. His obituary described him as someone who enjoyed music, cooking, spending time with family, and making people laugh.
