OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 07/30/2022, deputies with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence on Riverstone Parkway after receiving reports that Mark Allen had fired a handgun while attempting to force his way into the home. Allen had left the area before deputies arrived.
Deputies later located Allen in the parking lot of a Red Lobster on Riverstone Parkway. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, deputies attempted to take him into custody. Authorities stated that during the encounter Allen reached for a handgun, and deputies fired their weapons, striking him.
Allen was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation conducted the independent investigation into the shooting and submitted its findings to the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for review.
Allen's obituary described him as a U.S. Army veteran who enjoyed fishing, camping, woodworking, and spending time with his family.
