OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 07/28/2022, officers with the Summersville Police Department responded to reports of an active shooting at a nail salon located at 209 Merchant Walk, Suite 101, in Summersville.
Investigators said Patrick Wayne Carter entered the business and fatally shot two people, identified as his business partners, before officers arrived. Police encountered Carter outside the salon. According to the West Virginia State Police, Carter pointed a handgun at responding officers, who opened fire, striking him.
Carter was transported to Summersville Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The West Virginia State Police conducted the investigation into the shooting.
The two victims were later identified as co-owners of the salon, and investigators stated the shooting stemmed from a business dispute involving the three partners.
