n 07/27/2022, officers with the Dallas Police Department approached Kyle Dail outside a convenience store at 13015 Jupiter Road while investigating an alleged narcotics transaction.
According to police, Dail was armed with a handgun during the encounter and threw it aside as officers attempted to detain him. Police stated that Dail then moved toward the discarded firearm, prompting an officer to open fire. Dail was struck by gunfire and died at the scene. A handgun was recovered nearby.
Dail's family and community activists disputed the police account, arguing that he was unarmed when he was shot because the firearm had already been discarded.
