OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 07/25/2022, two Fulton County Sheriff's Office deputies went to the area of East Bailey Road and Fulton County Road 13 near Table Grove to locate Jeremiah Jones, who was wanted on an arrest warrant stemming from a domestic battery investigation. At approximately 9:56 p.m., deputies encountered Jones near the rural intersection. According to the Illinois State Police, the encounter escalated when Jones pointed a handgun at the deputies. Both deputies fired their weapons, striking Jones.
Jones was pronounced dead at the scene by the Fulton County Coroner. Neither deputy was reported injured. The Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation assumed responsibility for the investigation and processed the scene. Authorities did not publicly release additional details describing the sequence of events leading up to the shooting, whether verbal commands were given, how many shots were fired, or whether body-worn camera footage existed.
