On 07/25/2022, Jackson Police Department officers responded to a reported domestic disturbance near the intersection of Livingston Road and Collier Avenue. According to police, officers arrived at approximately 1:30 p.m. and encountered 38-year-old Tyrone Jones firing a handgun at a vehicle occupied by a woman. The vehicle had been struck multiple times, with several windows shattered by gunfire. The responding officer exited his patrol vehicle and ordered Jones to drop the weapon. According to Jackson Police Chief James Davis, witnesses reported that Jones did not comply and instead turned the firearm toward the officer. The officer then fired, striking Jones.
