On July 24, 2022, Benton PD attempted a traffic stop on William Whitfield. He did not stop and police chased him until he crashed in the 2000 block of Kay Road and died. Officer Brian Franklin fired shots. Numerous articles all fail to mention cause of death and merely state that he died from “injuries sustained in the encounter”, not mentioning whether the vehicle crash or shooting killed him.
