Monroe County deputies respond to reports of an intoxicated, armed and suicidal man in Key Largo. Police claim he pointed a gun at them. They shot and killed him. Lane Morgan Caviness had been a professional pilot who had been deputized to carry a gun on airplanes. It is believed that he suffered some temporary intoxication or mental health issues when killed. It does not appear that de-escalation had been attempted.
