OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/08/2022, at approximately 3:20 a.m., Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the 11100 block of Cora Lane after receiving reports of a drive-by shooting at a residence. According to investigators, the shooting targeted a home where a woman lived whose daughter Javier Alanis had reportedly been pursuing for years. No one inside the residence was struck by the gunfire.
Deputies and Harris County Precinct 1 constable's deputies located a vehicle matching the description provided by witnesses. As a deputy approached the parked vehicle, Alanis drove away and deputies pursued. The pursuit ended after the vehicle crashed near Veterans Memorial Drive and North Sam Houston Parkway West. Alanis then ran from the vehicle on foot.
According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, Alanis fired a handgun during the foot pursuit. Two Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies and two Harris County Precinct 1 deputies returned fire, striking him. Deputies rendered medical aid until emergency medical personnel arrived, but Alanis was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators recovered a handgun at the location of the shooting.
Family members of the intended target told KHOU that Alanis had been fixated on their daughter since middle school and had repeatedly attempted to contact her over a period of years. They said he had recently trespassed onto their property and that they had become increasingly concerned for their safety before the shooting.
