OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/02/2022, the Hall County Sheriff's Office responded to a welfare check at a residence in the 3200 block of Long Creek Drive after family members were unable to contact Kim Oanh T. Nguyen and her daughter, Lam-Ahn Tran. A concerned relative went to the home and encountered 51-year-old Thang Duc Doan, who stated the women were not there. The relative reported that Doan appeared to have blood on his clothing. Deputies obtained a search warrant for the residence.
At approximately 11:00 p.m., deputies entered the home to execute the search warrant. They encountered Doan holding a knife. According to investigators, Doan made aggressive movements toward deputies, who fired their service weapons, striking him. Doan died at the scene.
After securing the residence, deputies searched the home and found the bodies of Kim Oanh T. Nguyen, 42, and her daughter, Lam-Ahn Tran, 18. Investigators determined both women had been killed before deputies entered the residence. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation into the shooting, while the Hall County Sheriff's Office investigated the homicides.
