OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
A man reportedly behaving erratically was agitated, struck a deputy, was arrested and died from allegedly unknown causes in custody. He had been unarmed. Bystanders report that a deputy had forcefully slammed his head to the pavement prior to death. The department did not comment on the type of force that had been used during arrest. The San Bernardino coroner is an extension of the sheriff’s department and concerns were raised whether the autopsy which the sheriff announced would include toxicology would also include specific examination for skull and brain injuries.
Only ten days prior San Bernardino deputies had killed a 15-year-old autistic boy in his own home.
