On 09/01/2024, at approximately 3:30 a.m., a Bonneville County Sheriff's deputy attempted to stop Joshua Ramirez, 31, after Ramirez's vehicle nearly collided head-on with the deputy's patrol car on Woodruff Avenue in Idaho Falls. Deputies and Idaho Falls Police officers jointly escalated a high-speed pursuit. Police executed a Pursuit Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver, causing Ramirez's car to stop near the 1400 block of North Woodruff Avenue.

Police alleged that Ramirez made erratic movements, including pointing his fingers in a "shooter’s stance" toward deputies and attempting to restart the vehicle. Beaumont PD, Beaumont SWAT and the Beaumont Narcotics Unit were sent to a residence in the 700 block of Palm Street with a warrant for Victoria Meza, a 43-year-old resident.
