On September 13, 2024, at approximately 2:45 p.m., the Broomfield Police Department dispatched officers to Arista Flats at 8200 Arista Place in response to a disturbance involving Aisha Quest. Police alleged that she was armed and had locked herself inside an apartment.

The situation escalated, prompting the deployment of the Broomfield Police Department SWAT team. SWAT officers used flashbang grenades and a battering ram to breach the apartment in an attempt to apprehend Quest. During the confrontation, Quest allegedly pointed a firearm at officers. SWAT officers fired their weapons, striking her. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The standoff lasted approximately five hours, during which nearby residents were evacuated for safety. The Broomfield Police Department has placed the involved officers on administrative leave, following standard protocol. The 20th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team is leading the investigation into the shooting.
