On 08/30/2024, at approximately 8:40 p.m., Genesee Township police responded to a reported home invasion in progress at a residence in the 3000 block of Layman Drive in Genesee Township. The man who later died was at the residence when police arrived.

Police alleged that the man drove away from the residence as officers arrived and fired multiple gunshots toward officers while leaving. Genesee Township police initiated a vehicle pursuit specifically in connection with the reported home invasion, with additional law-enforcement agencies subsequently joining the pursuit.

The pursuit continued toward Flint until the man's vehicle went out of control and crashed near Dort Highway and Robert T. Longway Boulevard. Police then surrounded the crashed vehicle. According to the Genesee Township Police Department, the man remained inside the vehicle and sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police and emergency personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but he died at the scene.
