On September 6, 2024, at approximately 9:00 PM, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) responded to a shooting at 5116 Gate Parkway N, Jacksonville. Officers made contact with Ian Piscitelli, 28, and Briana Arreola, 27, who were wanted in connection with shooting into an occupied dwelling. During negotiations, Arreola threatened to engage in a shootout rather than face arrest. JSO's SWAT team and hostage negotiators were deployed to de-escalate the situation. During the standoff, officers overheard Arreola asking Piscitelli for a firearm. Two gunshots were heard, and upon entering the apartment, officers found both victims dead from gunshots. Piscitelli was found holding a firearm.

On 09/06/2024, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Wayne County Sheriff's deputies observed two motorcycles traveling at high speeds on U.S. 70 near Goldsboro, North Carolina. The motorcycles lacked visible registration plates. Deputies escalated a chase exceeding 100 miles an hour during which 19-year-old Bradley Bridger Gill from Raleigh lost control near the I-795 West exit, veered off the road, and collided with a tree. He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the crash site. Bradley Bridger Gill was a recent graduate of Broughton Senior High in Raleigh and was employed as a driller at Bridger Drilling.
INVESTIGATION: The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.

Tipton county deputies allegedly tried to traffic stop Ricky Reed, but he did not stop. Police escalated a chase and he fled to his home. He locked himself in. Police brought SWAT and made forcible entry into the home where they shot and killed him, stating that he had made a sudden movement. Police did not say whether he had been armed or not. Reed had had a number of serious run-ins with Covington police over decades and was known to them when they tried to traffic-stop him and pursued him to his house with SWAT.

On 09/06/2024, shortly after 8 p.m., Scott Adam Jenkins, 59, of Rochester died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after Winona police located and stopped him on Interstate 90 near St. Charles.

Eau Claire Police Department investigators had identified Jenkins as the primary suspect in the shooting death of his sister, Michelle Jenkins. Michelle Jenkins had been found dead from multiple gunshot wounds at her Eau Claire residence during a welfare check on 08/29/2024. Police alleged that surveillance and license-plate-reader evidence placed Scott Jenkins's vehicle at his sister's residence on the day she was killed.

Eau Claire police distributed information about Jenkins to law-enforcement agencies in southeastern Minnesota and requested that officers locate, stop and detain him. Police advised agencies that Jenkins was believed to possess a handgun and should be considered armed.

At approximately 8 p.m. on 09/06/2024, a Winona police officer spotted Jenkins's white Nissan Altima on Highway 43 in Winona. The officer followed Jenkins north through Winona and onto Interstate 90 while communicating with dispatch and confirming the information supplied by Eau Claire police.

The officer continued following Jenkins west on Interstate 90 for approximately 18 miles toward St. Charles. Near St. Charles, police activated emergency equipment and Jenkins pulled his vehicle over.

Officers remained outside the Nissan and issued commands over a loudspeaker directing Jenkins to exit the vehicle. Jenkins did not respond or leave the car.

Officers eventually approached the vehicle and found Jenkins slumped over in the driver's seat with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead. Police recovered a handgun from inside the vehicle.

The Winona County Sheriff's Office, St. Charles Police Department and Minnesota State Patrol assisted Winona police during the incident. Eau Claire police continued their investigation into Michelle Jenkins's killing after Scott Jenkins's death.

A school bus converted to be an RV was parked illegally in the city of Lincoln. Police were called and some sort of disagreement and sued with a man inside of the school bus. Police claim that he fired shots at police and drove away. Police tracked him down and, the man fled and hid in a nearby home. He allegedly escaped to a roof after a fire was started. Police state that he held a rifle and they shot and killed him. It is unknown what started the fire in the home, SWAT incendiary devices or whether it was deliberately set.

On 09/04/2024, Richard Pshock, 64, was killed in Fontana, California, during a high-speed police pursuit. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) initiated a traffic stop, but the driver fled, leading police to escalate a chase. The fleeing vehicle collided with Pshock’s Mustang at Beech Avenue and Cherry. On 09/04/2024, Taylor Alexander did not stop when Iberia Parish Sheriff's deputies attempted to pull him over. Police escalated a high-speed chase northbound onto LA Highway 3195. Alexander missed a curve, crossed into the southbound lane, exited the roadway, and overturned in a ditch.

Alexander sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital. On 10/02/2024, Alexander died from his injuries. The Louisiana State Police is investigating the incident.

On 09/04/2024, at approximately 5:45 p.m., Novi Police Department officers responded to a "family trouble" call at a residence in the 23000 block of Forest Park Drive. A 26-year-old male had fired shots into the home with a rifle. Family members safely exited the residence before the individual remained inside. Officers attempted to establish contact with the individual but were unsuccessful. The Southwest Oakland County Special Response Team was activated and, upon entry, found the individual deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On September 3, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) officers located an unoccupied stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the Walmart at 3200 East Platte Avenue. Officers coordinated with extra-duty CSPD officers inside the store to identify the vehicle's occupants. They identified 29-year-old Tyler Jacob Ben as the driver and a female associate as the passenger.

As Ben and his associate exited the store, officers approached them. Ben produced a handgun. Officer Nicholas Cassalia fired at least one round, striking Ben. Officers rendered medical aid until medical personnel arrived, but Ben succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The female associate was detained, interviewed, and released without charges. No officers or other individuals were injured during the incident. Per CSPD policy, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office is investigating the officer-involved shooting.

On September 25, 2024, CSPD released body-worn camera footage of the incident, showing Ben pulling a handgun from his waistband before Officer Cassalia fired multiple shots. The footage confirmed that Ben's handgun was loaded at the time.

A man on a MARTA bus engaged in an altercation with the bus driver with what is described as an “edged weapon”, fled, was located by police who saw him with a pair of scissors and shot and killed him. On September 2, 2024, at approximately 1 p.m., Glenwood Springs Police Department officers patrolling the Glenwood Meadows Shopping Center recognized 55-year-old Richard Grande, who had an outstanding felony warrant related to firearms charges. When officers attempted to contact Grande, he drew a firearm. The officers retreated, and one officer discharged their weapon, striking Grande.

As Grande moved toward his vehicle, the officers repositioned and engaged him with additional gunfire. Grande sought cover behind a vehicle, and officers maintained their positions until additional resources arrived. Upon approach, first responders pronounced Grande deceased at the scene. Investigators recovered a high-capacity firearm and believe Grande had access to additional ammunition. The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave, per department protocol.

Roanoke PD responded to a “shots fired” call and arrived at the Econo Lodge, where they allegedly heard shots being fired. Police found a man and a woman dead from gunshot wounds and Wayne Hubert Shortt was locked into a room.. Police called SWAT and escalated a standoff. After sometime of firing gas into the home, police made forcible entry and found a man dead from suicide under police duress.

On 09/01/2024, Newton County Sheriff's deputies pursued Andrew Roselius, 37, who was allegedly driving with a hostage. The chase began in Iroquois County, Illinois, crossed into Newton County, Indiana, and returned to Illinois, ending at the intersection of U.S. Route 24 and Concord Road in Sheldon. Roselius exited the vehicle and exchanged gunfire with officers. Deputy Brandon Schreiber was critically wounded, and Roselius was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities later confirmed no hostage was found in the vehicle.

On September 1, 2024, at approximately 1:39 a.m., officers from the Prairie Village Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a silver Chevrolet Malibu for a traffic violation near 63rd Street and State Line Road. The driver did not stop. Officers claim that they did not initiate a pursuit but observed the vehicle going eastbound at a high rate of speed, crossing into Kansas City, Missouri.

The Chevrolet then traveled across a grassy median, struck a small tree on the west side of 62nd Street, vaulted across the street, and collided with a large tree, causing the vehicle to disintegrate. The driver, the sole occupant, was ejected and pronounced deceased at the location. The person remains unidentified as of the date of this update. The Kansas City Police Department is investigating the incident.

DeSoto police states that a man traveling with two women and a small child knocked on a residential door in the middle of the night asking for water and appearing frantic. On September 1, 2024, at approximately 5:30 a.m., Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers responded to a vehicle collision at a McDonald's drive-thru in Southeast Washington, D.C. Officers found 26-year-old Justin Robinson unconscious in his vehicle, which had crashed into the restaurant. A firearm was observed on his lap.

As Robinson regained consciousness, officers gave commands for him not to touch the weapon. According to police reports, Robinson moved toward the firearm, prompting two officers to discharge their weapons, fatally wounding him.

On 09/01/2024, at approximately 3:30 a.m., a Bonneville County Sheriff's deputy attempted to stop Joshua Ramirez, 31, after Ramirez's vehicle nearly collided head-on with the deputy's patrol car on Woodruff Avenue in Idaho Falls. Deputies and Idaho Falls Police officers jointly escalated a high-speed pursuit. Police executed a Pursuit Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver, causing Ramirez's car to stop near the 1400 block of North Woodruff Avenue.

Police alleged that Ramirez made erratic movements, including pointing his fingers in a "shooter’s stance" toward deputies and attempting to restart the vehicle. A deputy fired nine shots, striking Ramirez multiple times. Ramirez was transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 4:10 a.m.

A subsequent search of Ramirez's vehicle revealed a small folding knife with the blade in the open position on the floor just in front of and to the left side of the driver’s seat. He was unarmed during the encounter. The East Idaho Critical Incident Task Force conducted an investigation, and the Bonneville County Prosecuting Attorney determined that the deputy's actions did not constitute criminal conduct.

On 08/31/2024, at approximately 9:07 p.m., Radford Police Department officers responded to the Speedway at 1102 West Main Street in Radford after a person reported an armed robbery in which a 2005 Toyota Camry was stolen. Police located the Camry approximately 40 minutes later at the Sonic restaurant on West Main Street. Officers attempted a felony stop because the vehicle had been reported stolen during the armed robbery. Police alleged that driver Khasi Nikole Chrisley, 33, drove away, and Radford police initiated a pursuit.

Police pursued Chrisley from West Main Street onto Radford Road and north on Route 11 toward Christiansburg. Before the Camry entered Christiansburg, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office deputies deployed spike strips in an attempt to stop it. The pursuit nevertheless continued into Christiansburg.

At approximately 9:58 p.m., while the pursuit continued on Radford Road, Chrisley's Camry struck the rear of a 2024 Mitsubishi that was in a turn lane near Mink Street and Crockett Home Improvement. The Camry then crossed into opposing traffic and collided head-on with a 2006 Volkswagen.

Radford police officers provided first aid and CPR to Chrisley at the crash scene. She was transported to Carilion New River Valley Medical Center in Christiansburg, where she died. Virginia State Police reported that Chrisley was not wearing a seat belt. Two people in the other vehicles suffered serious injuries; at least one was flown to a Roanoke hospital in critical condition.

Virginia State Police investigated the fatal three-vehicle crash, with its Crash Reconstruction Team assisting in the investigation.

Chrisley was born September 29, 1990. Her obituary identified her as the mother of three children.

On 08/24/2024, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Ricardo “Ricky” Resendez Jr., 28, was driving home from his job at George Bush Intercontinental Airport when off-duty Harris County Precinct 6 Deputy Constable Rigo Villeda Vivar crashed into Resendez’s vehicle at Canal Street and North Live Oak Street in Houston’s Second Ward. Resendez was approximately one block from the home he shared with his family. He died at the scene.

Houston police determined that Vivar was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Canal Street when his Chevrolet Tahoe struck Resendez’s Dodge Avenger as Resendez was turning onto North Live Oak Street. Vivar was off duty but was in uniform and traveling to work. Precinct 6 initially described the Tahoe as Vivar’s personal vehicle.

A search warrant obtained during the subsequent investigation provided substantially more detail about Vivar’s driving. Vivar told investigators that he cut around traffic and drove into the wrong-way lanes. He said he activated emergency lights while doing so. An eyewitness, however, told investigators that Vivar appeared to be traveling as fast as 80 mph in the 30-mph zone and that the witness did not see emergency lights activated.

Harris County Precinct 6 terminated Vivar’s employment the day after the crash. Houston police investigated the collision, while Resendez’s family repeatedly called for criminal charges and questioned why Vivar had not been arrested.

The investigation remained unresolved publicly for months. ABC13 reported in March 2025 that Precinct 6 had withheld records concerning Vivar and the crash despite a Texas Attorney General determination that at least some requested records were subject to release. ABC13 reported filing approximately two dozen public-records requests, including 18 with Precinct 6. The agency initially quoted unusually high costs for fulfilling some requests and later relied on the ongoing investigation to withhold records.

The case eventually resulted in criminal charges. On 06/30/2025, a Harris County grand jury indicted Vivar for manslaughter in Resendez’s death. Vivar was arrested on 08/05/2025 and booked into the Harris County Jail. His bond was set at $100,000. Court reporting identified his full name as Rigo Villeda Vivar.

Resendez was born June 9, 1996, and grew up in Houston’s historic Second Ward. He graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in kinesiology and was working at Bush Airport while establishing a career in sports medicine. Rigo Villeda Vivar was a Harris County Precinct 6 deputy constable at the time of the fatal crash. Although off duty, he was in uniform and traveling to work. Precinct 6 terminated him on 08/25/2024, one day after Resendez was killed.

ABC13 reported that Resendez’s family said it had learned of a history of professional and personal problems involving Vivar. Former colleagues and the family also raised allegations concerning Vivar’s driving record. When ABC13 questioned Vivar about those allegations, he denied them and referred further questions to his attorney.

Vivar was subsequently indicted for manslaughter on 06/30/2025. He was arrested on 08/05/2025, nearly a year after Resendez’s death, and a judge set his bond at $100,000.

On 08/30/2024, Jaden Kain Beheler, 23, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound during a multi-agency police pursuit that began in Rutherford County, North Carolina, crossed into South Carolina, and ended near Fingerville in Spartanburg County. Beheler continued driving away while deputies pursued him from Rutherford County into Cherokee County and then Spartanburg County, South Carolina. Chesnee Police Department and Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office personnel became involved in the pursuit.

During the pursuit, Beheler’s vehicle was involved in a crash but continued moving. Two Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office traffic deputies subsequently deployed stop sticks on Highway 11. The stop sticks punctured a rear tire, and the vehicle later left the roadway and crashed.

Police reported that video evidence from a Chesnee police officer showed that Beheler sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound before his vehicle left the roadway. After the crash, police found Beheler with a gunshot wound to his head and provided medical aid until emergency personnel arrived. He was taken to Spartanburg Medical Center, where he died. The Spartanburg County coroner concluded that the gunshot was apparently self-inflicted while Beheler was driving during the pursuit.

On 08/31/2024, at approximately 1:30 a.m., John Stephen Calder, 40, of Yorkville died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound during a LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office vehicle pursuit on Illinois Route 71 near Sheridan. Calder was driving a Chevrolet pickup and was the only person in the vehicle.

A LaSalle County sheriff’s deputy attempted a traffic stop of Calder’s pickup on Route 71. Calder continued driving away and the deputy pursued him. Available reporting describes the initiating event only as a traffic stop and does not provide the specific traffic violation or other reason the deputy initially attempted to stop Calder.

The pursuit continued on Route 71 until Calder’s pickup left the roadway and crashed near the intersection of Route 71 and East 2631st Road near Sheridan. Calder was pronounced dead at the scene.

A forensic autopsy was conducted on 08/31/2024. LaSalle County Coroner Richard Ploch reported that preliminary autopsy findings showed Calder sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound before the vehicle crashed. On 08/30/2024, at approximately 8:40 p.m., Genesee Township police responded to a reported home invasion in progress at a residence in the 3000 block of Layman Drive in Genesee Township. The man who later died was at the residence when police arrived.

Police alleged that the man drove away from the residence as officers arrived and fired multiple gunshots toward officers while leaving. Genesee Township police initiated a vehicle pursuit specifically in connection with the reported home invasion, with additional law-enforcement agencies subsequently joining the pursuit.

The pursuit continued toward Flint until the man's vehicle went out of control and crashed near Dort Highway and Robert T. Longway Boulevard. Police then surrounded the crashed vehicle. According to the Genesee Township Police Department, the man remained inside the vehicle and sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police and emergency personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but he died at the scene.

On 08/20/2024, at approximately 2:55 p.m., members of the multi-agency Help Eliminate Auto Theft Team, known as HEAT, approached Angel Rojas, 39, while he was sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle police believed was stolen near Grant Avenue and Seventh Street in central Fresno. The HEAT personnel involved included California Highway Patrol officers and a Fresno County Sheriff’s Office deputy.

The officers were using unmarked law-enforcement vehicles. Fresno Police Lt. Paul Cervantes said the vehicles had their emergency lights and sirens activated and that the officers, although working in plain clothes, wore clothing identifying them as police. The officers approached Rojas on foot and attempted to take him into custody.

Police alleged that Rojas put the vehicle into reverse and rammed two unmarked law-enforcement vehicles while officers were outside their vehicles. Two California Highway Patrol officers and one Fresno County Sheriff’s Office deputy then fired at Rojas, striking him multiple times in the upper torso. At least one nearby witness reported hearing approximately 10 gunshots.

Rojas was transported to Community Regional Medical Center in critical condition. He remained hospitalized for ten days before dying from his gunshot injuries on 08/30/2024. Fresno police reported that investigators subsequently recovered a loaded firearm from the driver’s-side floorboard of the vehicle. On 08/30/2024, at approximately 9:20 a.m., Licking County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Johnstown Police Department officers responded to 4206 Northridge Road near Alexandria after multiple 911 calls reporting a domestic violence incident involving Douglas Leroy Plott, 54, and his sister, Diane Bell. Dispatch information indicated weapons were involved, including knives and potentially a firearm.

When police arrived, the house was on fire and Bell was barricaded inside a bedroom. According to the subsequent Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, or BCI, investigation, officers entered the house after smelling smoke and hearing smoke alarms. Body-camera footage showed Plott inside carrying two large butcher knives pointed downward. Officers repeatedly ordered him to drop the knives. Plott responded by telling police to kill him and then moved farther into the house.

Interior security-camera recordings recovered during the BCI investigation showed Plott walking through the house with two knives and repeatedly striking the bedroom door behind which Bell had barricaded herself. BCI reported that Plott eventually forced the door open. The recordings also captured statements by Plott about wanting to die.

Licking County Deputy Sarah McCreery and Johnstown Police Officer Gary Hargraves Jr. entered the bedroom. Police alleged that Plott was holding Bell from behind and was armed with at least one knife. McCreery fired one shot and Hargraves fired two shots at Plott. Plott was struck in the head and became unresponsive. Deputy Nicholas Dewitt was present but did not fire.

Officers removed Plott from the burning house and performed CPR. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene. Bell suffered cuts during the incident and received medical treatment. An autopsy was performed on 09/01/2024 by the Licking County Coroner’s Office.

The shooting officers were not initially publicly identified. Records and body-camera footage obtained later identified them as McCreery and Hargraves. The Ohio BCI conducted an independent investigation that included officer and witness interviews, body-camera and other video, 911 calls, radio communications, CAD records, scene processing, firearms testing, the coroner’s findings and officer records. On 08/30/2024, at approximately 8:52 p.m., James Tighe Cushman, 31, called 911 from his home on Hawthorne Drive in Orchard Park and reported a disturbance involving a gun. Cushman told the dispatcher that his mother was outside with a gun and that he had armed himself with a knife. During the call, Cushman made statements indicating that he anticipated a potentially fatal encounter with responding police.

Orchard Park Police Officer Thomas Fowler was the first officer to arrive. According to the subsequent New York Attorney General's Office of Special Investigation, Cushman ran toward Fowler carrying a knife. Fowler drew his firearm and backed away while repeatedly ordering Cushman to drop the knife. Cushman stopped, returned toward his house and made statements questioning why Fowler had not shot him. He then placed the knife on top of a mailbox.

Officer Tanner Till subsequently arrived. Cushman retrieved the knife from the mailbox and again ran toward the officers while they retreated behind their patrol vehicles. Cushman again stopped and moved back toward his house. When another police vehicle arrived, Cushman ran toward the officers a third time. Police alleged that he continued toward them holding the knife despite repeated commands to drop it. Fowler and Till then fired, striking Cushman seven times.

Cushman's mother had been outside during portions of the encounter. An attorney representing the family later said she had succeeded in getting Cushman to put the knife down before additional police activity and commands caused the situation to escalate again. The family's attorney argued that police escalated an encounter that could have been de-escalated.

Neither Fowler nor Till was wearing a body camera. Orchard Park Police did not equip its officers with body-worn cameras at the time. However, a neighbor's security camera recorded significant portions of the encounter, and police subsequently released that recording along with the 911 audio. The New York Attorney General later reported that Orchard Park police began equipping and training officers with body cameras in 2025.

Cushman was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Orchard Park Police Chief Patrick Fitzgerald publicly characterized the circumstances as appearing consistent with what he called "suicide-by-cop." On 04/01/2026, the Attorney General's Office released its final investigative report. OSI reviewed crime-scene evidence, security-camera footage, 911 recordings, witness and officer interviews and other evidence. The office concluded that prosecutors would be unable to disprove beyond a reasonable doubt that Fowler and Till acted in lawful self-defense under New York law and therefore declined criminal charges.

Cushman's family subsequently challenged the police account and pursued civil litigation. His mother, Suzann M. Tighe, filed a federal civil-rights lawsuit in the Western District of New York against Fowler, Till, the Town of Orchard Park, its police department and other defendants on 09/25/2025. On 08/30/2024, Wayne Noel, 64, died after crashing his Honda Civic while New York City police pursued him through Queens Village. Police were searching for Noel in connection with the alleged abduction and sexual assault of a 9-year-old girl the previous evening.

According to NYPD investigators, the incident that prompted the search occurred at approximately 7:20 p.m. on 08/29/2024 at a Key Food supermarket near 213th Street and Jamaica Avenue. Police alleged that Noel approached the girl while her grandmother was in a restroom, grabbed the child by her hair and forcibly took her from the store to his vehicle. Police alleged that Noel subsequently sexually assaulted the child in the vehicle.

Police searched for Noel and his Honda Civic for approximately 18 hours. At about 12:30 p.m. the following day, NYPD personnel located Noel driving the vehicle in Queens and attempted to stop him specifically because he was wanted in connection with the alleged abduction and sexual assault. Noel continued driving away while police pursued him.

During the pursuit, police said Noel drove through a stop sign near 90th Avenue and 212th Street and collided with another vehicle. The collision caused severe head injuries to Noel. Emergency personnel transported him to a hospital, where he died. The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries.

Police said Noel had four previous arrests. NYPD officials specifically cited a 2022 robbery case in which police alleged that Noel forced a woman into the same vehicle, drove her to another location and robbed her at knifepoint before she escaped.

On 08/30/2024, at approximately 9:45 a.m., Beaumont Police Department narcotics investigators and SWAT officers went to a residence in the 700 block of Palm Street to execute both a search warrant and an arrest warrant involving Victoria Juana Meza.

According to Beaumont police, Meza fired at officers during execution of the warrants. Police alleged that her gunfire struck an officer's ballistic shield and two police vehicles. The officer carrying the shield sustained a minor injury. Officers then fired at Meza, striking her. Beaumont EMS pronounced her dead at the scene.

Two dogs were also shot during the police operation. One dog was killed and the other survived and was taken by Beaumont Animal Services.

The shooting was investigated by Beaumont Police Department detectives and Internal Affairs, the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office and the Texas Rangers. A Jefferson County grand jury subsequently reviewed the shooting and on 10/02/2024 declined to indict the officers who fired at Meza. Later reporting differed on whether two or three officers fired; the Beaumont Enterprise reported three officers, while another local report described two officers as having been no-billed.

Meza's obituary gives her age as 42, rather than the age of 43 reported by police and contemporary news coverage. It states that she was born on 10/14/1981 in Ventura County, California, and died on 08/30/2024, making 42 the chronologically supported age. She was survived by her mother, five siblings, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

On 08/29/2024, at approximately 5:56 p.m., Amir Jordan, 19, was struck by a Cincinnati Police Department cruiser in the 4600 block of Este Avenue near Chickering Avenue in Cincinnati's Spring Grove Village. Jordan had just gotten off a Metro bus and was crossing Este Avenue when the police vehicle struck him. He was transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

The officer was driving north on Este Avenue in a marked 2021 Ford Explorer and was operating the cruiser in emergency-response mode. Cincinnati police said the officer had activated the cruiser's emergency lights and siren while responding to reports of a shooting in the Spring Grove Village area.

Police said Jordan had exited the Metro bus and crossed Este Avenue westbound in an area without a marked crosswalk. The police cruiser was traveling parallel to the bus before striking him. A witness independently confirmed hearing the cruiser's siren and seeing its emergency lights activated.

Jordan's family questioned whether additional safeguards should govern the speed and manner in which police drive through residential neighborhoods during emergency responses. His grandmother, Paula McClendon, said the family initially received little information from city or police officials and called for changes to police emergency-response protocols. Residents also pointed to the absence of a marked pedestrian crossing near the Metro bus stops at Este and Chickering avenues.

Jordan's father, Anthony Jordan, later said his son was crossing Este Avenue while on his way to visit him. He called for pedestrian-safety improvements at the location, including crosswalks, traffic controls or other measures.
