On 09/22/2024, Sangamon County Sheriff's deputies initiated a pursuit of Kirtis Shane Davenport following a reported burglary at a motorcycle dealership. Police escalated a chase as they pursued him on his motorcycle. The chase ended when Davenport crashed, suffering severe injuries. He was transported to a hospital but died days later from those injuries. Law enforcement has not disclosed the names of the officers involved in the pursuit. The Illinois State Police are leading the investigation into this incident.
