On October 8, 2024, at approximately 7:10 p.m., Detroit police officers were on routine patrol near Balduck Park when they recognized a man from a previous narcotics case. Upon checking his name, they discovered he had a parole violation. As officers approached, the man allegedly pulled a gun from his waistband and fired at them. Officers opened fire, fatally wounding him. The incident occurred near a youth football practice, but no injuries were reported among the children present.
