Elbert County deputies arrived at the Fitzgerald Apartments at 175 East Spruce St. in Elizabeth with an arrest warrant for someone. Police engaged in a shootout during which a deputy was shot in his armored vest and suffered only minor injuries. The man whom police had tried to arrest, was shot and killed by police.
