OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
Mount Airy PD chased Desmond Lewis Moore in a vehicle upon a report of unspecified “suspicious vehicle.” Police later, added that he may have been involved or have knowledge of a prior homicide. It is not clear which of the two were the reasons for the chase at the onset. Police chased the vehicle into a head-on crash with another vehicle. Three people ran from the car and Moore and a female fled into a wooded area on foot. More was apparently approached or attacked by a K9 and fired shots. Police engaged in a shootout, killing him. The police dog died from gunshot wounds. It is unclear at this time whose bullets struck the animal.
