OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On October 14, 2024, former Sgt. Anthony Shae of the Orange County Sheriff’s department shot and killed his wife, Lt. Eloida Shea who was an active deputy of the same OCSO where Shea formerly worked. After the murder, he staged the scene as a suicide and took their 2 small girls shopping to Publix. He had elaborately staged a suicide scene, texted himself from his dead wife’s phone to throw off the investigation and explained to deputies that he had found his wife who died of “apparent suicide” with a gun found on top of her chest and a head wound. She had previously called in sick on her job that morning herself, suggesting there had been major incidents unfolding through the night prior to her death, something her husband confirmed.
He admitted that a long-known affair which he had with someone else in the sheriff’s department had been discovered which led to him leaving the OCSO as a sergeant prior to the murder. He admitted that his wife Ellie had distanced herself from him when the affair was discovered and that they fought “all the time.” He further admitted that a heated argument had been underway about the affair prior to her murder and that he had a “bad night” as only explanation for her alleged suicide. Police stated that an accidental recording on bodycam during the investigation tipped them off that this was a homicide being staged as a suicide but did not elaborate further what the specific content of the accidental recording was.
While this database does not list deceased officers in their on-duty and off-duty fatal events and these cases are listed in a separate database on IncarcerNation, in this case the officer was also a murder victim and is therefore listed here.
