On 07/25/2024, Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to reports of a man knocking on doors and causing a disturbance in a residential neighborhood near the 1900 block of 147th Street in Gardena.
According to investigators, officers encountered 47-year-old Brian Barbosa and pursued him on foot through several residential properties. During the pursuit, Barbosa sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officers took Barbosa into custody and rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner determined that Barbosa died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and ruled the manner of death a suicide. The Los Angeles Police Department investigated the incident. As of the latest publicly available information, no officers have been publicly identified and there is no indication that officers fired their weapons.
