On May 27, 2024, at approximately 4:05 p.m., Detroit Police Department officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 11100 block of Beaconsfield Street on the city's east side. Upon arrival, officers encountered two women on the porch, stating that a male had been shot inside the residence. Entering the home, officers found 35-year-old Kenneth Thompkins armed with a firearm. An exchange of gunfire ensued, during which Thompkins was fatally shot. Prior to the officers' arrival, Thompkins had shot and killed his 16-year-old nephew, John Howard-Thompkins, during a mental health crisis. A woman was also injured during the incident and was transported to a local hospital in temporary serious condition. Only Kenneth Thompkins is listed in this database as the other shootings happened prior to police involvement.
