OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On April 30, 2024, at approximately 2:30 a.m., officers from the Littleton Police Department observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed near West Belleview Avenue and South Federal Boulevard. The officers initiated a traffic stop; however, the driver fled the scene, leading officers on a pursuit. The driver, later identified as 31-year-old Joby Vigil, continued to evade officers, eventually crashing into several parked vehicles near West 2nd Avenue and South Garrison Street.

Following the crash, Vigil exited his vehicle and, according to police reports, fired shots at the officers. In response, officers discharged their weapons, fatally striking Vigil. A firearm was recovered at the scene. No officers were injured during the incident.

The 18th Judicial District's Critical Incident Response Team is conducting an independent investigation into the officer-involved shooting. The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, per standard protocol.
