On April 22, 2024, police escalated a pursuit after Antonio Dewayne Davidson in connection to an ongoing drug investigation. Officers chased him at high speeds. The officers allegedly found him dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the end of the chase near UAB, and despite the investigation into drugs, no drugs were found in Davidson's possession. The cause of death was ruled a gunshot from a self-inflicted injury, which may have been part of his response to the police pursuit.
