On 03/19/2024, Lafayette Police Department officers responded to a domestic violence call at a residence in the 200 block of Irene Circle in Lafayette, Louisiana. Upon arrival, officers encountered 39-year-old Russell Q. “Bubba” Francis Jr., who was reportedly armed.

According to initial reports, Francis allegedly posed an immediate threat during the interaction. Officers opened fire, striking him. Medical personnel were called to the scene, but Francis was pronounced deceased.
