On March 23, 2024, Houston County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a residence on S. Houston Lake Road in Kathleen, Georgia, following reports of a man holding his ex-wife hostage. Upon arrival, deputies encountered a man who had locked himself inside the home. Police escalated a standoff. He eventually died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent review of the incident. At the time of reporting, authorities had not released the individual's name pending notification of next of kin.
